Star Trek/Planet of the Apes The Primate Directive (Comic Review)

Reviewed By Jason S. Lockard

This book is a joint venture of IDW Publishing and Boom! Studios 5 book mini-series crossover event that is now collected in one awesome trade paperback. Let’s take a look at this awesome book.

The story follows the crew of the Starship Enterprise as they investigate rumors of a Klingon expansion. While searching the U.S.S. Enterprise discovers a mysterious trans dimensional portal that is being used by the Klingons. What they find is an alternate Earth that has been taken over by apes and the only human that can communicate is a colonel named George Taylor.

The Prime directive is “No identification of self or mission. No interference with the social development of said planet. No references to space or the fact that there are other worlds or civilizations.” Well, the Klingons are arming the apes and Colonel Taylor wants Captain Kirk and his crew to help overthrow the apes society. That of course is against the directive, but will Colonel Taylor take no for an answer? You’ll have to read the book to find out!

When I first heard of this crossover I had my reservations, but from the moment I opened this book and started reading all my doubts disappeared. The story totally makes sense and the illustrations just pops off the page.

The trade back is 120 pages of full-color, eye-pleasing graphics, and the story draws you right in. This story takes place right after the events of the original Planet of the Apes film. This is definitely one of the best things I’ve read all year!

So if you love classic Star Trek TV show and Planet of the Apes film from the 60s as much as me this is an absolute must read comic event! I can not say it enough, treat yourself to this instant classic comic mini-series! It is available on digital and paperback. Head over to www.Amazon.com and get your copy today.
