When you think of classic comedy duos you think 3 Stooges, Abbott and Costello and yes Laurel and Hardy! I have been a fan of Laurel and Hardy ever since I first saw one of there short films. I have almost every film they ever made in my collection! I still enjoy there exploits even to this day!
Now the great folks at Mill Creek Entertainment have decided to give some love to the boys with a 2 disc DVD set entitled The Laurel and Hardy Comedy Collection. Let's take a look at what is included in this huge collection.

DISC 1 -
The Lucky Dog (1921) In their first screen appearance together, Stan plays a penniless dog lover and Oliver plays a crook who tries to rob him and his new paramour. In this silent movie classic. ***
Yes, Yes, Nanette (1925) Nanette sends a letter to her family telling of her new husband, Hillory. When he arrive, he gets insulted by each member, including the dog, and loses his wig. Later when Nanette's former lover (Oliver Hardy) returns Hillory confronts him. This silent film was directed by Stan Laurel. **
The Stolen Jools (1931) Star-packed promotional short subject fund raiser for the National Variety Artists tuberculosis sanatorium! The film follows an investigation of the reported theft of Norma Shearer's jewelry. ***
The Flying Deuces (1939) Ollie has fallen in love with the innkeeper's daughter in Paris. The only problem, she's married. To forget her he joins the Foreign Legion with Stan. ***
The Tree in a Test Tube (1943) Laurel and Hardy demonstrate the uses of wood in this World War II propaganda film. **
Utopia (1951) Stan inherits a yacht and a South Pacific island. Ollie and Stan sail there with 2 other men. They shipwreck on a new atoll and settle there. An ex-fiancee joins them. They declare an independent nation and problems arise. This was the duos last film together. **
DISC 2 - Stan Laurel solo acting
Mud & Sand (1922) Rhubarb Vaselino lives in a small village and becomes a local bull fighting hero. Years later living in Madrid as a national hero, when he becomes involved with Filet de Sol, and his lover finds out, he must fight the most deadliest in Spain, in the last bull fight of the season. **
West of Hot Dog (1924) At the reading of his late uncle's Stan gets everything, including 'The Last Chance Saloon', but in the case of Stan's death, the saloon will be split between Bad Mike and his friend. Stan flees town, in fear for his life but gets on Bad Mike's horse, which takes him to Bad Mike's house. **

Oranges and Lemons (1923) After getting into a scuffle with his boss and some co-workers, an orange packer tries to help another co-worker, only to wind up in a conflict with him as well. Trying to elude his boss, he heads inside the packing house, and visits with the women who are packing fruit into cases. Then he heads to a storage area, and tries to use the machinery to escape his pursuers. ***
The Soilers (1923) During the Alaska gold rush, a miner who's hit the mother lode plunges into a tumultuous battle with a claim jumper and an underhanded sheriff. ***
White Wings (1923) Pursued by the law, a street cleaner finds refuge by impersonating a dentist. ***

The Hobo (1917) Billy is a hobo who hangs around the train station. He creates disruption in the ticket office, at the lunch counter, and in the lives of some of the customers. **
Hop To It, Bellhop (1919) Two nutty bellhops (Oliver Hardy and Bobby ray) raise havoc at a posh hotel. ***
The Saw Mill (1922) An inept employee strives to win a mill owner's daughter's affection while staying out of reach of the mill's bullying foreman.***
The Show (1922) A propman backstage at a theater must put up with malfunctioning wind machines, roosters that spit nitroglycerine, and a gang planning to rob the theater's payroll. ***
Kid Speed (1924) A wealthy businessman organizes a race; he meets two competitors, both of them in love with his daughter. The organizer suggests that whoever wins the race gets to meet his daughter every Wednesday. ***
Stick Around (1925) Two paperhangers (Oliver Hardy and Bobby Ray) are employed by a sanitarium to hang up some posters. Soon chaos ensures. ***

Should Sailors Marry? (1925) A Wrestler and his ex-Wife try to con a recently-discharged Sailor out of 4 years' pay. ***
Along Came Auntie (1926) A woman is set to receive $100,000 and quarts of diamonds from her divorce-disapproving aunt. Having taken in her first husband as a lodger, due to financial difficulties, she must act to convince her aunt, that she is still married to her first husband. **
Bromo & Juliet (1926) A young man puts on a play but has to watch his drunken father and a persistent cabdriver during the performance.***
Crazy Like a Fox (1926) A young man who feigns insanity in order to get out of an arranged marriage, only to find out that his sweetheart is the girl he has been arranged to marry. ***
Wandering Papas (1926) A Chef goes to collect food for the bridge workers' dinner. **
Thundering Fleas (1926) The "Our Gang" kids have to attend a wedding, and they bring along their flea collection--which gets loose. ***
Now silent films may not be some people's cup of tea, but they are a part of cinema history. The comedy is still funny and it is awesome to have these in my collection.
This 2 disc DVD set includes all these short films and full length features in their original full screen format. The picture and audio quality does vary in the different film some look amazing others maybe not so much! But the comedy is still amazing! To see the early days of the boys before they became the comedy duo. I find this really cool!
