Family Pictures (1993)

Some stories can not be properly told in a 90 minute time frame. Thus the mini-series was invented. I love getting to see a story played out over two or more nights. Mill Creek Entertainment have been releasing mini-series on DVD, much to my and other mini-series fans' delight. The next offering is 1993's Family Pictures now on DVD.

ABC's mini-series event is based on the best-selling novel by Sue Miller. The story follows Nina Eberlin, the fourth child in a family of six. She makes her way to visit her now divorced parents. After she arrives she begins looking through some old photographs. Nina begins recalling the story of how her parents, Lainey and David, learned that her younger brother Randall was autistic and how it eventually lead to the breakdown of their marriage.

This mini-series has an amazing cast of actors. Anjelica Huston, Sam Neill, Kera Sedgwick and Dermont Mulroney. They put their heart and soul into these roles. The script was beautifully adapted and is a moving and touching story. Shining a light on issues in families and how we should respond, supporting one another.

The mini-series is broken into 4 part ranging from 43 to 51 minutes each episode. These episodes are presented in full screen format and look and sound stunning on the DVD. A very cool bonus feature is there is English subtitles for the hearing impaired.

I am a huge fan of Sam Neill and he does a tremendous job in this film. So if you are a fan of Sam Neill, Anjelica Huston or good dramas. I definitely suggest this one for your collection. Head over to MillCreekEnt.com today and get your copy of this classic on DVD.
