The Long Arm of the Law Part 1 & 2 (1984-1987) Blu-ray Review

When you are looking for an impressive box set of Blu-rays featuring martial arts films, look no further than 88 Films. We have seen some of the most impressive looking Box set Blu-rays from this company. I'm taking such releases as Gorgeous, In the Line of Duty I-IVMagnificent Warriors, and Taxi Hunter just to name a few.

Well, it is time for another Blu-ray release and now it is just in time for the holiday season. This time around we are seeing the deluxe Blu-ray release of the double feature The Long Arm of the Law Part 1 & 2.

Our Rating System:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend an evening.
*=You haven’t missed anything.

Long Arm of the Law (1984): Thugs sneak into Hong Kong to rob a jewelry store, then kill a cop during their getaway. They plan another heist while hiding from the police hunting them down to avenge the slain comrade. ***

Long Arm of the Law 2 (1987): Suspecting that a mastermind is behind a sudden crime wave, the Royal Hong Kong Police Force sends in three undercover agents to crack a violent crime ring. ***

The Long Arm of the Law double feature was directed by Johnny Mak (To be Number One) and his brother, Michael Mak (Sex and Zen, Butterfly and Sword) respectively. Now these two films are jam-packed with the Hong Kong-style action sequences that we all know and love.

It is good to note that these films are not family friendly. There is a good amount of violence and there is some sexual content. The first film is so good it scored the #6 slot on the Hong Kong Awards list of the best 100 Chinese Motion Pictures.

Both of these films have been restored in a brand new 2k restoration. They have been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and are presented in 1:85:1 aspect ratio. There are the audio options for either the original Cantonese language or the dubbed English language version. There is also the option for English subtitles. As with all the 88 Films restorations these looks and sound great. 88 Films never cease to amaze.

I have stated this before, but it is worth saying again. I love when these kung fu movies get the bad English dubs. I grew up on the old Godzilla and Bruce Lee films with the horrible dubbing and loved them. And I still love them to this day. So, seeing these films with the bad dubs, for me take this release to the extra cool factor.

Now as we have seen with 88 Films Blu-ray releases, they go above and beyond and bring the physical media fans something you don't get on streaming services, tons of bonus features! Take a look at the bonuses included on this Blu-ray!
