God Told Me To (1976) {Blue Underground Ultra HD / Blu-ray Review}

Reviewed by Jason Lockard

Larry Cohen is a film director known for his cult films; The Stuff, Q: The Winged Serpent, the It’s Alive film series. These films have entertained audiences for years. In 1976 just after he wrote and directed It's Alive he wrote, produced and directed God Told Me To.

The good folks at Blue Underground have been restoring cult classics in 4k such as The Final Countdown and Dead and Buried. Now they have restored this cult sci-fi horror classic God Told Me To in 4k and have given it a deluxe 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray release.

After a sniper guns down 14 pedestrians on the streets of New York City. A New York police detective (Tony Lo Bianco, The Seven-Ups) investigates the death rampage to a cult and its leader Bernard Phillips (Richard Lynch, Invasion U.S.A.).

The film distributed by New World Pictures and did not do well at the box office. So the New World Pictures  felt it needed a new promotional campaign so it was re-issued under the title of Demon.

The film is an interesting and entertaining little sci-fi horror film. It is a very important film as it is the very first film role of Andy Kaufman (Taxi, Andy Kaufman: I'm From Hollywood). For that alone it is must own for me.

Blue Underground has restored this film in 4K from the original uncensored camera negative. The cool thing with this release Blue Underground has everyone covered. If you are a fan of Ultra HD you can enjoy this restored classics in the highest of HD. But if you haven't made the leap to there just yet. Included in this 2 disc set is the Blu-ray release so you can still enjoy the film in HD.
