Colonel March of Scotland Yard: The Complete Series (DVD Review)

Boris Karloff is a legend! From playing the Frankenstein Monster and the Mummy in the Universal monster movies to those spooky films like The Old Dark House and Black Friday. That even when he moved later in his career to join forces with Roger Corman to bring us such cult classics as The Terror.

Boris Karloff would also grace the small screen in shows like The Veil, Thriller and Colonel March of Scotland Yard. Now the good folks at Film Chest media Group have released the complete series of Colonel March on DVD!

Boris Karloff is the one-eyed Colonel March, who alone runs Scotland Yards "Department of Queer Complaints", a term referencing extreme cases, considered unsolvable by the standard fare of British Intelligence. Colonel March is a brilliant, slightly egoistical eccentric, an acknowledged genius who works on his own with no supervisor, and with whom the toughest, most bizarre cases land.

Long before Mulder and Scully started solving X Files there was Colonel March that paved the way. The supernatural and strange cases are on full display in this series. Boris Karloff is at his best here in this series. He really embodies the Carter Dixion's character of Colonel March and brings him to life on the small screen. Ewan Roberts is amazing as the supporting character Inspector Ames. These episodes are so well crafted, written and acted. You will be intrigued with these mysteries.

Film Chest Media Group have collected all 26 episodes of the series on 3 DVD Discs. These episodes have been transferred to DVD in their original full screen format. The audio is a Dolby Digital 2.0. The transfers look and sound great. There are no digital artifacts in the picture and the audio is clean with no hiss or pops.

Now in addition to the complete series on 3 discs. Film Chest Media Group included a booklet that includes an episode synopsis of every episode of this series and in each episode, there is a piece of trivia. I really enjoyed that bonus feature! In addition, there is a photo gallery and the original trailer.

Film Chest Media Group really put a lot of thought and a huge amount of love into this release. And as a fan of classic TV, Boris Karloff and physical media I trult appreciate the attention to detail.
