In 1983 directors Steven Spielberg and John Landis decided to bring Twilight Zone to a new generation with their version of Twilight Zone the Movie. The original Blu-ray release has gone out of print. So, now Warner Brothers Home Entertainment have re-released this film on Blu-ray.
Synopsis: You're traveling through another dimension: a dimension not only of sight and sound, but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's the signpost up ahead: Your next stop: The Twilight Zone. Rod Serling Four of Hollywood's greatest directors tell different stories, exploring the region just beyond the boundary of reality, in this motion picture version of the classic television series.
Twilight Zone is a film that has a tragic history to it. A history that we won't go into it here. But it is an entertaining anthology movie. The first segment one was written and directed by John Landis and based on classic episodes "Time Out" and "Back There". The second segment is a remake of the episode "Kick the Can". Segment three directed by Joe Dante and is a remake of the episode "It's a Good Life". Finally, the fourth segment was directed by George Miller and is a remake of the episode "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet".
Now granted nothing can compare to the original Twilight Zone. Rod Serling created something so special that it transcends generations. Those episodes still hold up all these years later. But Twilight Zone the Movie holds the spirit of the original series and makes for a nice watch.
This movie anthology has some great actors in it. Albert Brooks, Charles Hallahan, Dan Aykroyd, Doug McGrath, Vic Morrow, Scatman Crothers, John Lithgow and Kathleen Quinlan just to name a few. Then the film is narrated by the great Burgess Meredith. In my opinion a perfect casting as he was in one of the greatest episodes of the original Twilight Zone "Time Enough at Last".
Warner Brothers have transferred this film to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio tracks are an English Dolby Digital 5.1 and English PCM. There are also 1.0 tracks in Spanish and French. Finally, there are subtitles in English, Spanish, French, Chinese and Portuguese.
With Blu-rays one of the best parts are the bonus features. But with this new re-issue the only bonus feature is the Theatrical Trailer. That is a huge disappointment. Now I'm sure with the tragedy that is associated with this film everyone wants to distance themselves from this film. But an audio commentary, a retrospective, something would have made this release so much better.
Instead of just a re-issue it would have been nice to see a new 4K UltraHD release with bonus features. But alas all we received was the HD Blu-ray release. But I guess it is better than nothing.
So, if you missed the first Blu-ray release of Twilight Zone the Movie, here is your chance to own it. Head over to MovieZyng or Amazon and order your copy today! This will make a nice addition to the Twilight Zone section of your home video library.
Out of 4 film reels (4 being the best) The Blu-ray of Twilight Zone The Movie recieves.....
