The riffing of these public domain films would continue with other shows like Rifftrax, Cinematic Titanic and the Film Crew. But throughout the years there would be many that would try to capture the magic of Mystery Science Theater 3000.
The latest "riff" show is a one with a very unique concept, this show is entitled Dracula's Drive-In. Now the Atom Age Vampire is being released on DVD from Ruthless Studios.
Synopsis: Welcome to Dracula's Drive-in, where Dracula and his buddy Bigfoot watch the best monster movies ever made! Laughter and fright are on the menu, with this wacky and ghoulish drive-in extravaganza that will leave you laughing on the floor and howling at the moon! Tonight's drive-in experience presents one of the most spooktacular sci-fi holiday horror films ever produced, Atom Age Vampire! Join Dracula and Bigfoot for a madhouse spectacular, it's Dracula's Drive-In: Atom Age Vampire!
Atom Age Vampire follows a reptilian professor (Albert Lupo) restores a scarred singer's (Susanne Loret) beauty with serum from the dead.
Dracula and Bigfoot are computer animated. Dracula is voiced by BC Fourteen a writer, director, editor and actor who created the film noir thriller, New Terminal Hotel (released worldwide in 2013, as Do Not Disturb). And the voice of Bigfoot is provided by Lester Day. The computer animation is okay, but not the highest of quality.
I think the idea of having monsters riff on these old movies is a pretty cool concept. But personally I think with the campiness of these films, if Dracula and Bigfoot were actor's in costumes that would have made this much better.
Ruthless Studios has transferred to DVD in widescreen format with scenes of the film presented in it's original full screen format and presented in 1.78:1 aspect ratio. The audio is an English 2.0. There is no subtitle option included on this disc.
The scenes with Dracula and Bigfoot are crisp and clean, but in all honesty the audio track can be a bit challenging. There are time when Dracula and Bigfoot are 'riffing' the film's audio is so loud that you can't clearly hear their commentary. That's a shame. Also there is no bonus features found on this disc.
Even with the faults this riff film is still a fun little watch. So if you enjoy the riff films you may want to check out Dracula's Drive-In: Atom Age Vampire. Head over to MVD Shop or Amazon and order your copy today!
