But the immense catalogue of films from the Shaw Brothers would eventually have to come to an end. And the latest of the 88 Films Blu-rays is on the last films produced at the legendary Shaw Brothers studio. of course I am talking about 1984's An Amorous Woman of Tang Dynasty.
Synopsis: Rebellious Yu Yuan-gi becomes a Taoist priestess in order to avoid traditional roles designated to her as a woman by the society and focus on her studies and poetry. However, her trysts with both her maid and a ronin lead to trouble.
Okay so this is another Shaw Brothers exploitation film. I am not a fan of exploitation films, but this film does have a nice backstory other than just the exploitation aspect! And I can appreciate the style Eddie Ling-ching Fong brought to this film from the director's chair. The beauty of the landscapes really shows the how gorgeous the countryside is! I can imagine fans of Shaw Brothers exploitation films will be impressed with this film.
88 Films have transferred this film to Blu-ray in High Definition 1080p and is presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Cantonese Soundtrack with newly translated English Subtitles. This new transfer comes from the original camera negative and looks great. As always 88 Films continually impresses with their Blu-ray transfers and this one is no different!

I really enjoy when 88 Films adds audio commentaries to these Shaw Brothers releases. You can enjoy the film and get all kind of information about the film in your language. That makes for an enjoyable experience. And as always love the multiple versions of the artwork! Too Cool!
