The Lady Assassin (1983) 88 Films Blu-ray Review

When it comes to kung fu cinema it didn't come much better than that of the films of The Shaw Brothers. 88 Films have been releasing some amazing Blu-ray releases featuring The Shaw Brothers films. And these releases are not just any Blu-ray releases, they are deluxe gorgeous looking Blu-rays.

Well, the latest Shaw Brothers Blu-ray release from 88 Films is 1983's The Lady Assassin. The film was written and directed by Chung-Ku Lu (The Holy Virgin vs. The Evil Dead). 

Synopsis: Based on an infamous chapter of Chinese history, The Lady Assassin mixes pageantry with some of the most awesome sword fights in any Shaw Bros film! From Hong Kong's legendary Shaw Brothers studio comes a blood-drenched story of ninjas, eunuchs and dark palace intrigue: the old emperor is on his last legs, and his most ambitious and amoral son plots to cheat his way to the throne. But taking power is the easy bit. Staying on top will prove much more difficult.

Chung-Ku Lu produced an action-packed film that moves a mile a minute. The Lady Assassin is chocked full of great fight scenes that we have all learned to love in Shaw Brothers productions. And the ending (no spoiler here) must be seen to be believed!

88 Films have transferred this film to Blu-ray in High Definition 1080p and is presented in 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Cantonese Soundtrack with newly translated English Subtitles. 

88 Films Blu-ray transfer is a thing of beauty. The film looks and sound crisp and clean. There are no digital artifacts or audio anomalies. This is a superb transfer. I imagine The Lady Assassin looks as good here on Blu-ray as it did the day it was released. But an amazing looking transfer is not all that is included here. 88 Films added some great bonus features to make this a deluxe Blu-ray! Take a look at what is included.
