Behind The Bucket: A Garrison Story (DVD Review)

Ever since the iconic introduction crawl first appeared on the big screen in 1978 leading into Star Wars, film fans became fanatics. And that fandom has not waned over the years, if anything it has gotten stronger as the years have gone by.

During comic conventions people dress up as their favorite characters and Star Wars is always present. But sometimes you will see characters present in places you even never dreamed. Come to find out there are some great people behind the Buckets. And that is exactly what this new documentary, Behind the Bucket: A Garrison Story is all about.

Synopsis: For two years filmmakers followed members of the 501st's Midwest Garrison to investigate why people say they are 'Bad Guys Doing Good'. These Star Wars costumers may be big kids at heart, but through their fandom, they go above an beyond for those who not only love Star Wars, but those who also need a little help. Through hospital visits, charity events, a musical number with 'Weird Al', and many more excursions, you'll see how these 'nerds dressing up as plastic spacemen' are able to bring joy, while wiping tears away from the cheeks of those who need it most.

I remember as a young child going trick or treating one Halloween as Yoda, one of my favorite Star Wars characters. Now I love Star Wars, but the men and women in this documentary take their love for Star Wars to a whole other level. These men and women are not just doing parades and comic cons. The best part for all of these people involved is when they can grant a child's wish as part of the Make-A-Wish foundation. The passion of all these people involved is unmatched.

The men and women behind the "buckets" telling their stories from how they got started, to making their costumes and joining the 501. But in addition to that it was cool seeing some amazing stars we all know interacting with the 501. We saw Lillian Garcia (WWE), Greg Grunberg (Heroes), Dean Cain (Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman), and Ray Park aka Darth Maul himself. But there is no denying that this is quite the emotional documentary!

Behind the Bucket: A Garrison Story has been transferred to DVD in widescreen format. The audio is an English Dolby Digital 2.0. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

This film transfer is really crisp and clean the audio is clear. There is no digital artifacts or audio anomalies. It is a beautiful transfer. Now in addition to a beautiful film transfer there is also the addition of the film's trailer. Always a nice bonus!

There are some films that are made for entertainment purposes, and then there are films that have a greater purpose. Behind the Bucket is a film to shine a spotlight on people doing good. In this world that we see so much bad news and so much bad stuff almost daily. It is so refreshing to see people reaching out to bring a little joy to people who need it! Bravo!

Now not everyone loves documentaries. But if you love a good documentary or Star Wars cosplay this is a really good film to check out. If you would like to add this film to your collection Head over to MVD Shop or Amazon and order your copy today.
