Robert Duvall has starred in some of the greatest films in cinema history. I love his performances in his screen debut in To Kill A Mockingbird, True Grit, M*A*S*H, The Great Santini, Apocalypse Now, Tender Mercies, The Godfather I & II and The Apostle (probably my favorite role).
Warner Archive Collection earlier this year they released Robert Duvall in The Rain People on Blu-ray! Now it is time for another Blu-ray release featuring Robert Duvall. As we are heading to the 30th anniversary of the film's theatrical release, it is time for 1995's The Stars Fell on Henrietta to shine on Blu-ray.
Synopsis: Texas, 1935. It's a time of boomtowns or bust for oil wildcatters and, repeatedly, derby-topped Mr. Cox has come out flat busted. Not to worry. Mr. Cox has a mule -- headed optimism. He's sure as the sunrise that near the town of Henrietta on a cotton farm that raises more dust than bolls, there's black gold beneath the barren sod.
The film was produced by Clint Eastwood, the screenplay was written by Philip Railsback and directed by James Keach. The film really does a good job of character development. And is a moving period piece. Robert Duvall is tremendous as Mr. Cox. The cast consists of amazing performances by Aiden Quinn, Francis Fisher, Brian Dennehy, Billy Bob Thornton and others.
I must admit I never saw this film before. Which is surprising as much as I enjoy a good Robert Duvall film. The human spirit portrayed in the midst of the great depression, amazing. So this Blu-ray release was the first time I experienced this film. It was a tremendous experience. I loved seeing this film in HD for my first time!
Warner Archive has been transferred this film to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 2.39:1 Letterbox edition. The audio is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There is also option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
The Warner Archive restoration of this film is a thing of beauty. The colors are gorgeous, the skin tones are correct and the picture is crisp and clean. The audio is clear void of any his or pops. Warner Archive is a spectacular job with restoring this film and releasing it on Blu-ray.
I loved this film. It is understandable that Robert Duvall has so many great films this one is probably not the top of anyone's list. I feel this film is grossly underrated. It is a great piece of cinema, and it looks amazing on Blu-ray. They only thing I can find against this release would be the lack of bonus features. This Blu-ray includes the Original Theatrical Trailer.
I love the fact that Warner Archive Collection is reaching back to give these films that are maybe not a well known a chance to be restored and rediscovered by a whole new generation of film fans. That should be applauded.
If you are a fan of Robert Duvall you need to see this performance and if you want to see it you need to see it on this Blu-ray it is that spectacular. Head over to Moviezyng and order your copy today.
