The Rain People (1969) Warner Archive Blu-ray Review

Francis Ford Coppola is considered one of the best filmmakers. He has wrote and directed some amazing films during his illustrious career. Such films as The Godfather, The Godfather Part II, Apocalypse Now, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Rainmaker, Patton and Finian's Rainbow.

In 1969 Francis Ford Coppola wrote and directed the feature film entitled The Rain People. Now for the 55th Anniversary Warner Archive Collection released this film on Blu-ray.

Synopsis
Unsure of herself, months pregnant and feeling trapped, Natalie Ravenna leaves her sleeping husband a note and drives away from her Long Island home one rainy morning to find herself.

The Rain People is an intense drama. Francis Ford Coppola attack's themes in this movie that were not widely discussed openly at this time in history. Another thing that was not widely seen at this time was a film from a feminist point of view. That is what makes The Rain People such an important film in history.

As for the cast Shirley Knight (Sweet Bird of Youth) is very good as Natalie, and she is joined by future Hollywood icons James Caan and Robert Duvall that Coppola would uses again in his masterpiece The Godfather.

The Rain People has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in the film’s original aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The soundtrack is English 2.0 mono DTS-HD Master Audio. There is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

This film looks amazing on the Blu-ray! The clarity and contrast in this transfer is stunning to say the least. The audio is clear as a bell throughout the entire film. Warner Archive did a tremendous job with this transfer. But what about bonus features? Well, that is where this disc fails. There are no bonus features at all!

When you think of Francis Ford Coppola films The Rain People is not the first film thought of, and that is understandable. He has done so many great films over the years that this would not be the first one on anyone's list, but it should be seen. It is a very important film. And if you are going to see it, this Warner Archive Blu-ray is the best way to see it!
