Dark Night of the Scarecrows 1 & 2: 4k UltraHD Review

Made for TV Movies in the 1980s were plenteous. Most were okay, some were pretty bad, but than there were some that just exceed all expectations and have become classic films. One such film was the 1981 made-for-TV horror film Dark Night of the Scarecrow.

This classic has been released on DVD and Blu-ray but never on 4K....until now. VCI Entertainment have released a special 2 disc UltraHD for the 43rd anniversary. This release has not only the original classic, but the 2021 sequel.

Our Rating System:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend an evening.
*=You haven’t missed anything.

Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1981) In a small Southern town, four vigilantes wrongfully execute a mentally-challenged man, but after the court sets them free, one by one each man dies a mysterious death!
****

Dark Night of the Scarcrow 2 (2021)
Chris Rhymer and her young son Jeremy relocate to a small rural community. Little did they know of the horrific past this town hold and their presence make just re-awakens things. **

Now the original I consider this film almost a perfect film. I appreciate for the 40th anniversary of the original film's release, but let's be honest with how great the original film is and how loved it is by fans, no matter how good it was, it would have detractors.

VCI Entertainment and MVD Visual have given us the physical media fans a this 2 disc 4K release, making sure these films have the absolute best quality possible. The original film is presented in 3840p in it's original 1.33:1 aspect ratio. The sequel is presented in 3840p in aspect ratio 16x9. The original films has the option for English and Spanish subtitles and the sequel has the option for English subtitles.

Now the Blu-ray release of these films look really nice, but the 4K looks better than ever. There is a crispness to these films that you won't find on the Blu-rays. And than there is the bonus features. Take a look at what is included on this double feature 4K!

* 2023 Dark Night of the Scarecrow Triple Fan Commentary Hosted by Heath Holland and featuring Robert Kelly noted film historian and Amanda Reyes, expert on TV movies, author, podcaster.

I love the addition of commentaries, but the video feature "Bubba didn't do it!" was really nice and the classic TV promos are so cool. VCI and MVD really made a nice upgrade from the Blu-ray!

Now I saw some backlash about this release online all because of the addition of the sequel. To me I love the addition of the sequel. Yes it is no were close the the original. But to have the original and the sequel to me is a great thing. For me with physical media releases, the more movies, the better!

If you love Dark Night of the Scarecrow as much as I do, you need this 4K UltraHD in your collection. It is a nice little upgrade from the Blu-ray. Head over to
