The Outsider (2019) Blu-ray Review

Throughout the years there have been some absolutely amazing westerns in cinema history. We have seen such films as The Shootist, Unforgiven, High Noon, Shane, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, The Naked Spur and The Searchers, just to name a few.

Westerns were big business in the early years but in the late 1970s audiences seemed to have gotten their fill of the western genre. So the were westerns were plentiful, they became scarce. Well, recently there has been a resurgence of the western genre.

Well, in 2019 there was a western they starred country music superstar Trace Adkins and the legendary Danny Trejo. That film was The Outsiders and now Cineverse has released this western on Blu-ray.

Synopsis: In the Old West, in search of a better life, a railroad worker (Jon Foo) finds himself on the wrong side of a group of corrupt lawmen. As Marshal Walker (Trace Adkins) attempts to control his town, tragedy strikes forcing him to decide between justice and family.

Back in the day westerns were in the running for Oscar nominations, but in this day and age most westerns are B movies. The term B Movies holds a bad cogitation. People think B movie and this bad movies, but nothing could be farther from the truth. A b movie was a low-budget movie made for use as a companion to the main attraction in a double feature.

This b western is quite entertaining. Trace Adkins (Wild Faith) has been in quite a few of these b westerns. Here he is pretty good and the addition of Danny Trejo (Mechete) and Sean Patrick Flanery (Nefarious) is tremendous. To be totally honest the film is a bit too predictable. I could tell where this film was going from the get go. But that doesn't take away from the entertainment factor.

The Outsider has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and presented in widescreen format. The audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

This Blu-ray transfer is pretty nice. The film is a 2019 film so you have a HD master and transferred to Blu-ray equals a crystal clean and clear picture with no signs of digital artifacts. But Cineverse added some cool bonus features to this Blu-ray to enjoy as well!

* A Look Inside The Outsiders
* Outside the Law: Making The Outsider
* Trailer

I always enjoy the addition of a trailer, but I really love the behind the scenes making of the films. I always loved to peek behind the big curtain to see how a film is made. Every since I was a kid behind the scenes featurettes have been my favorite and they continue to be, even after all these years.

Okay so maybe The Outsider is not the greatest western you will ever see. The film is a tad slow, but running just under 90 minutes it is not a long film that you will get bored with. It is a compelling story of good versus evil with sprinkling of martial art to give it a little additional flavor!

So, if you are a fan of the western genre you may enjoy The Outsider. Head over to
