Blackhat (2015) 4k UltraHD Review

Michael Mann is a filmmaker that has been celebrated for his films. The Last of the Mohicans, Public Enemies, The Aviator, Collateral, The Kingdom, The Insider and Heat.

In 2015 Michael Mann joined forces with Marvel's Thor, Chris Hemsworth for an action, crime thriller entitled Blackhat. As the film is coming upon its 10-year anniversary Arrow Video has decided to release this film on 4K UltraHD!

Nick Hathaway (
Chris Hemsworth, The Avengers, Extraction) is a gifted hacker currently serving a lengthy prison sentence. When a Hong Kong nuclear plant goes into meltdown after its security is penetrated, Chinese army cybersecurity captain Chen Dawai (Leehom Wang, Lust, Caution) offers his old college roommate a deal: help identify and apprehend the culprit in exchange for his own freedom. What follows is a frenetic, globe-trotting race against time to avert disaster, fraught with hidden agendas and ever-shifting loyalties.

Blackhat is a thrill a minute film featuring hectic chase scenes. If you know and love Mann's handheld camera work in Collateral and Miami Vice. That this film is want you are in for here. Now granted this style of filmmaking is not for everyone, but for those that enjoy it will be thrilled. Chris Hemsworth is great here, but understandable this is not Thor.

To be totally honest here Blackhat is not Michael Mann's best film. far from it. The film takes a lot of time getting going so viewers could get bored. But if you stick with it, the action kicks up and pays off!

Arrow Video have transferred Blackhat to 4K (2160p) UHD Blu-ray presentations in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) of both the US and international versions of the film. Now Arrow Video's transfer of Blackhat to 4K looks crisp and clean. The detail that this transfer brings to this film is mind blowing! The audio is as clear as a bell.
