For me there is nothing like a good biographical film. And when you throw in the holidays as well. These types of films are even more special. I ran across the story of a cat named Bob who helped a man find hope in his what seemed like his hopeless life.
The story "A Streetcat Named Bob" became a New York Times #1 best selling book. Then in 2017 the book was made into a feature film. Cleopatra Entertainment and MVD Visual joined forces to bring this film to physical media fans on Blu-ray.
James Bowen (Luke Treadaway), is a street musician and recovering drug addict. He desires to reconnect with his father and his new wife and daughters. But when he is rejected by them, he could easily go into a downward spiral. One night all alone in his apartment he is visited by an intruder a stray ginger cat. After trying to find the cat's owners without any luck. He realizes he found a friend he desperately needed. Soon James and Bob are inseparable, and they become local celebrities and even write a best selling book about their story.
I went into watching this film with low expectations. I didn't want to set my self up for a fall. I can truly say this film surprised me beyond my wildest imagination. A Streetcat named Bob is a heartwarming and inspiring true-story, with a hint of the holiday spirit sprinkled in for good measure.
The film moves along at a nice pace. Scene after scene is well crafted and you never get bored with the story. The raw and unfiltered effects of drug abuse is on full display, bringing a realism to this film. Luke Treadaway (Unbroken, Clash of the Titans) spreads his wings as the drug addict James. He is so believable. The supporting cast includes some familar faces such as, Ruta Gedmintas (FX's 'The Strain'), Anthony Head ('Buffy the Vampire Slayer') and Joanne Froggatt ('Downton Abbey'). But perhaps the true star of this film is Bob himself, played by the real life cat himself.
Now MVD Visual and Cleopatra Records have released this biographical film on Blu-ray. The film has been transferred in 1080p and is presented in 2.40:1 aspect ratio. Ther audio is a lossy 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack. There are no English subtitles included on this disc.
The film transfer is great! The picture quality is crisp and clean with no digital artifacts or damage to the print. The audio is clear as a bell. But what makes this Blu-ray release even better is the bonus features added to this release. Take a look at what is include.
* Introducing Bob: In a minute and a half video the real James Bowen gets interviewed about his thoughts on seeing his life story adapted for the big screen.

A Streetcat named Bob is filled with heart and the holiday spirit. It's a raw and real look at how the love of an animal can change your life. But it should be noted that with the inclusion of drugs and mild profanity, this isn't a family film. So, viewer discretion is advised.
I highly recommend A Streetcat Named Bob for anyone that love a good biographical film, films about amazing animals, holiday films or just good dramas. Head over to Amazon and order your copy of A Streetcat Named Bob you won't be disappointed.
