Silent Night in Algona (2022) DVD Review

World War II was a tumultuous time not only for America, but the entire world. George Santayana once said “Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it”. perhaps this is why the stories of World War II are continuously made into feature films.

When we think of World War II films most probably think, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, The Bridge on the River Kwai, The Great Escape, Stalag 17, The Dirty Dozen, Patton or Casablanca.

World War II films are still being made even to this day. One of the latest World War II films was 2022's Silent Night in Algona. Now this film received a DVD release from Bridgestone Multimedia Group.

Silent Night in Algona is based on a true story set in Algona, Iowa, in 1944. The film captures the resilience of a small town during WWII when a young farmer with a debilitating back injury devises an unconventional plan to save the corn harvest using German POWs. However, fear and resentment spark tensions among the people and could stand in the way. Can the true spirit of Christmas and shared humanity emerge and remind us of the relevance and enduring impact of forgiveness and unity?

There have been many World War II stories immortalized on film. This story is a more or less forgotten one, but boy is it an inspirational tale! In one of the darkest times of human history, the human spirit. After watching this film, I believe you will never be able to sing Silent Night again without thinking of this film.

The film is presented in widescreen format. The audio is an English 5.1 Surround Sound. There are also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. The transfer is crisp and clean with no digital artifacts and the audio is clear as a bell!

As for bonus features except for the option for English subtitles, there are none. I would have love to see the addition of a trailer, a commentary or interviews. That would have taken this release to a whole other level. But it is still a great film and for physical media fans this will be a film they will want to add to their collections.

If you love inspirational films or films about World War II this is the best of both worlds. Add Silent Night in Algona on DVD to your collection. Head over to MovieZyng and order your copy today.
