Spinout (1966) Blu-ray Review

Elvis Presley films were box office cash cows. Even if the films were not Oscar nominated or winning films, people seemed to not be able to get enough of them. But sadly, on August 16th, 1977, Elvis was found dead. But his legacy lives on in his music and movies.

Warner Archive Collection for the anniversary month of the icons passing decided to release on of Elvis' favorite films he ever starred in, 1966's Spinout. Now released featuring a new restoration and bonus features, Elvis fans can own this high-speed fun fest on Blu-ray.

Mike McCoy (Elvis Presley) is a racecar driver and rock singer, who is being pursued by three very determined young women. Pert, spoiled, rich Cynthia always gets what she wants, and she wants Mike ... Diana St. Clair, a best-selling author doing research for her next book, The Perfect American Male, thinks he fits the title and wants him for the book--and for herself ... And sexy drummer Les hears wedding bells whenever she thinks of the handsome young singer. Now, Mike must solve his problem of too many beautiful women chasing him in this romantic musical comedy.

It is understandable why Spinout is Elvis' favorite film. While Jailhouse Rock is one of Elvis' best dramatic performances, Spinout is just edge of your seat fun. It's not trying to save the world with a narrative or bring the world together. It is just giving the audience 90 minutes of escape from all the trouble in their lives, and that is does.

Elvis' music is always at the forefront, and it is always spectacular. The supporting is just as great though. The cast includes, Shelley Fabares (The Donna Reed Show, Coach), Diane McBain (Surfside 6, Batman), Dodie Marshall (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.), Deborah Walley (Gidget goes Hawaiian), Jack Mullaney (The Absent-Minded Professor), Will Hutchins (Sugarfoot), Carl Betz (The Donna Reed Show), Una Merkel (Destry Rides Again) and many more familiar faces.

Warner Archive’s new Blu-ray presents Spinout in 1080p in the original 2.35:1 widescreen format. The soundtrack is a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 mono. There are also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

I owned this movie on DVD and have enjoyed it for years. But when I received this Blu-ray and watched the film. It is much better than the previous DVD release. The specks of dirt and debris found in the DVD print is non-existent on this new Blu-ray. Warner Archive has brought new life to this film. The picture is crisp and clean and the colors are bright and vibrant and the audio is a clear as a bell! This is a tremendous looking restoration and transfer.

Warner Archive didn't stop there with this release. No Way! The film looks so great that could have easily been enough to call this a must own! But they added some very cool bonus feature to this Blu-ray disc. Take a look at what is include.

* Tom and Jerry Cartoons
   Catty-Cornered (1966) Jerry Mouse lives in a hole connecting two buildings. One side houses Tom the other another cat. Jerry decides for peace his will pit the two cats against one another.
   Filet-Meow (1966) Jerry protects a goldfish from Tom, who would like to make dinner out of the little fish. Jerry gets some big help in his fight against Tom from a huge shark.

* The Original Theatrical Trailer

* Song Selection (Jumps to the musical performance in the film.)

Classic Cartoons and a Theatrical trailer always make for a welcomed addition to any Blu-ray release. Now while Spinout may not be my favorite Elvis film it is so much fun. And this new Blu-ray is a welcomed addition to my Elvis collection. It is so cool to see Warner Archive giving Elvis films the love they so richly deserve. Kudos Warner Archive! Keep 'em coming.

So if you love Elvis films as much as I do you need this Blu-ray in your collection. Head over to MovieZyng and order your copy today. You will not be disappointed. The quality is spectacular!
