One such player was simply statistically the greatest pitcher of all time Nolan Ryan. Filmmaker Bradley Jackson and huge Nolan Ryan fan wanted to bring a tribute film to the great pitcher. So with the help of the Ryan family, Facing Nolan was born. Now this documentary come to home video on Blu-ray.
In Major League Baseball no one has the mythology of Nolan Ryan, nobody. Facing Nolan is told from the point of view of the hitters who faced him and the teammates who revered him.
Now I was not able to witness Nolan at the beginning of his career, but I do remember seeing him pitch nearing the end and I remember him being something amazing even for a player at his age. Here was an older man pitching just as good, if not better than the younger pitchers in the league. How could this be possible.
This documentary dives deep not only into Nolan Ryan's career, but his life. The ups and down, the joys and the sorrows. In this documentary along with Nolan and his children and grandchildren, we hear from his beloved wife high school state tennis champion Ruth. Also baseball legends; Randy Johnson, Roger Clemens, Pete Rose, Rod Carew, Dave Winfield, George Brett, Craig Biggio, Mike MacRae, Tom House, Bobby Valentine and interviewed. Than the most surprising one for me was to hear from Former President George W. Bush.
I have to say this documentary is so uniquely edited it is unlike any other documentary I have watched. Now I mean that in the best way possible it really keeps you guessing what is going to happen. Of course unless you lived through Nolan Ryan's career.
The film is transferred onto Blu-ray in 1080p in widescreen format with the audio options of 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, 5.1 Dolby Digital, and 2.0 Dolby Stereo. There is also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
The film looks and sounds great. Although some clips from his early career do show a lot of wear and tear. That should be expected. But otherwise it is a good looking feature. Now in addition to this full length feature, there are some cool bonus features. Take a look at what is included;
* Q&A with Nolan Ryan, Tom House and Pitching Ninja
* SXSW Q&A
* Clips

I love sports and I love documentaries, so for me this is the best of both worlds. But I would be remiss if I didn't just inform you the reader that there is a small bit of profanity 2 words. So parents should screen this film before showing it to their younger sports fans.
So if you love Baseball, Nolan Ryan or want to know more about statically the greatest pitcher to ever live, Facing Nolan is for you. Head over to Amazon or Kino Lorber and order your copy today.
