The UFO Incident (1975) {KL Studio Classics Blu-ray Review}

KL Studio Classics The UFO Incident Blu-ray

There are few actors have such a recognizable voice as James Earl Jones. Who hasn't heard his deep rich voice as Darth Vader in Star Wars or as King Jaffe Joffer in Coming to America. As a kid I remember watching him in the Christmas film Santa and Pete. He is literally one of my favorite actors to hear speak.

In 1975 James Earl Jones joined Estelle Parsons for a Made-For-TV movie The UFO Incident based on a real life account of the Hills from the book The Interrupted Journey by John G. Fuller. Now thanks to the good folks at KL Studio Classics this film is arriving on Blu-ray.

The film follows Barney (James Earl Jones, Blood Tide) and Betty Hill (Estelle Parsons, Watermelon Man), a married couple who encounter a UFO  while driving one night. Not wanting to admit to the fact, they refuse to discuss the incident. Now years later the secret is causing a rift in their marriage. So they decide to visit a psychiatrist (Barnard Hughes, The Bob Newhart Show) and, under hypnosis, deliver remarkably similar stories about the aliens they believe they saw, and what might have happened to them on that fateful night.

Now The UFO Incident is not like most alien abduction films. Most people think of Fire In the Sky or The X Files. This is a more subdued slow burn kind of film. Now to me I found this film intriguing. Director Richard A. Colla (TV's Battlestar Galactica) did a remarkable job telling this account visually. Even the alien make-up and effects were pretty impressive for 1970s.

As for the acting, Estelle Parsons is great, Barnard Hughes is a powerful addition to this film, but of course James Earl Jones is simply amazing. I would rank his emotional breakdown as one of his best acting scene. A must witness!
