The Three Stooges Double Feature (Soup to Nuts & Snow White and The Three Stooges)

Soup to Nuts Snow White and The Three Stooges
Reviewed by Jason Lockard

As a kid I remember watching The Three Stooges on TV and enjoying the antics of Moe, Larry, Curly, Shemp, Joe Besser, and even Curly Joe DeRita. A few years ago we had the extreme pleasure to review the Mill Creek Entertainment release of "The Three Stooges: Big Box of Nyuks" collection. You can read the review of that release here.

Now as a humongous fan of The Three Stooges I have almost every film and TV show The Three Stooges ever did on DVD or Blu-ray. There is juts a couple I am missing. The other day I crossed a couple off of my list when I ran across a double feature DVD of Soup to Nuts and Snow White and the Three Stooges.

Our Rating System:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An OK way to spend an evening.
*=You haven’t missed anything.

Soup to Nuts (1930) Mr. Schmidt's costume store is bankrupt because he spends his time on Rube Goldberg-style inventions. The creditors send a young manager who falls for Schmidt's niece Louise, but she'll have none of him. Schmidt's friends Ted, Queenie, and some goofy firemen try to help out, and things come to a slapstick head when Louise needs rescuing from a fire. ***

Snow White and The Three Stooges (1961)
Based on the classic fairy tale, Larry, Moe, and Curly Joe (the Three Stooges) substitute for the Seven Dwarfs while the princess Snow White (Olympic figure skating champion Carol Heiss) is forced to flee from her jealous stepmother, the queen (Patricia Medina), who takes drastic steps to insure that Snow White never gains the throne. ***

Now while Moe and Larry was constant in the trio the third member changed. Everyone has their favorite third member of the stooges. In this double feature we get the trios first film in Soup to Nuts featuring Shemp and one of their final films in Snow White and the Three Stooges featuring Curly Joe DeRita. These two films may not be the greatest the trio ever put to film, but they are very entertaining.

As for this DVD set both films get a dedicated disc all to it's self. On the Soup to Nuts it is a one sided disc with bonus trailer of Snow White and the Three Stooges. Than the Snow White disc is a two sided disc featuring both the full screen and white screen editions of this film. There is also the theatrical trailer included.

Now the films look pretty good for the age of these pictures. The only thing I hate about this set is the two sided disc. There are dual layer discs now and they could have easily but both versions of the film on one dual layer disc. But that is a minor complaint.
