Murder In High Heels (2019) {Alpha New Cinema DVD Review}

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

Film Noir it is a term used to describe stylish Hollywood crime dramas, particularly those that emphasize cynical attitudes and motivations. There have been some amazing film noirs over the years including Touch of Evil, The Maltese Falcon or Double Indemnity!

In 2019 Brett Kelly directed a film noir entitled "Murder in High Heels" that is a full on homage to those classic films of yesteryear. Now the good folks at Alpha Home video under the division Alpha New Cinema are giving this film noir a DVD release.

Murder in High Heels follows Mike (Andrew Galligan) a
bartender in a burlesque club. He has a loving wife, what more could a man ask for? But things are about to go horribly wrong. The main act at the club is a woman named Ivy (Zoe Towne). She uses her female wiles on him and he soon finds himself neck deep in a murder scandal. Will he get out of this alive? You'll have to watch the film to find out.

This screenplay was masterfully written by Janet Hetherington. Brett Kelly brings the dark moody feel to this film. And while Murder in High Heels was shot in 2019 it fits right in with those film noirs of the 50s. Everyone fits in and the sets have the right 50s feel. Even the music is spot on.

Most film noir's were fast paced and most of the time under 90 minutes. Murder in High Heels is a breakneck pace and comes in at 1 hour and 3 minutes. It really doesn't overstay it's welcome.

Now for this DVD release. The film has been transferred in widescreen format and in Dolby Digital 2.0. The picture is shot in glorious black and white and looks perfect and the audio sound crystal clear. But a magnificent copy of this film is not where this features end. Take a look at the bonus features found on this disc.

Bonus Features include:

  • Commentary Track With Director Brett Kelly
  • 'The Pretty Lie' and 'Lil' Gumshoes' – Two Short Films Directed By Brett Kelly

The commentary really is interesting as director Brett Kelly shares all the behind the scenes information about this film noir. Than the two short films couldn't be more polar opposites. The Pretty Lie a short film noir. While Lil' Gumshoes is more of a Little Rascals comedy mystery.

I have to say that Murder in High Heels in an entertaining and engaging film noir. Fans of the genre are really going to want to check this film out. And this Alpha New Cinema DVD is the prefect way to experience it!
