DVD Review: The Galaxy One Collection

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

Science fiction is one of my favorite genres of film. Films that take you on a journey to other lands, to see other creatures. These adventures are ones we will never experience in our own lives but we get to experience them on the big screen.

VCI Entertainment and MVD Visual joined forces to bring us a 4 movie set of science fiction films from the late 70s and early 80s entitled The Galaxy One Collection. Let's take a look at the films included in this 2 disc DVD set.

Movie Rating:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend an evening.
*=You haven’t missed anything.

Disc One:

Lifepod (1981) The first interplanetary cruise ship malfunctions halfway to Jupiter, forcing most of the crew and passengers to abandon ship. A handful of people are trapped onboard. ***

Time Warp (1981) After a long space journey, an astronaut returns home to his family--only to discover that he has somehow gone through a "time warp" and is now one year into the future, rendering him invisible to all those around him. ***

Disc Two:

Killing at Outpost Zetta (1980) A team of men and women investigates the mysterious deaths of two previous expeditions to a strategically important but barren world. ***

Star Odyssey (1979)
Earth is attacked by an intergalactic villain and his army of robotic androids. **

These films are filled with some iconic and well known faces in cinema history including, Adam West (Batman), Gretchen Corbett (Rockford Files), Kirk Alyn (Superman serials), Joe Penny (Riptide), Gianni Garko (Sartana spaghetti westerns).

All of these films are interesting with a lot of entertainment value. While they may not be 4 star sci-fi films they are very enjoyable. I found myself getting lost in these stories and after all that is all you can ask of a film.

As for this DVD release. These four films are spread across two DVDs. I have seen companies that squeeze four films on one DVD. I am so glad that VCI and MVD decided to give these films space to breathe. Each of these films look and sound pretty amazing when you think they are low budget films from the 70s and 80s. As a really cool bonus feature each film comes with English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

If you are a fan of 80s sci-fi. You are going to love this set. I highly suggest picking up a copy of The Galaxy One Collection. Head over to Amazon.com and get your copy today.

Out of 4 Film Reels we would score VCI's DVD release of The Galaxy One Collection receives....
