The Patriot

The Patriot, Mel Gibson, July 4th, Independence Day

Written By Jason Lockard

A the time of this writing we are celebrating the 4th of July 2020. Now every 4th of July I have certain films I like to watch! Of course first on my list is Independence Day! I have watched that film almost every July 4th for the last 15 years or more.

But something I like to do each year is watch a patriotic film that I have never seen before. Well, before the Covid-19 outbreak, during one of our treasure hunting excursions we picked up Mel Gibson's The Patriot.

The Patriot follows a widowed farmer, with a brutal military past. He decides not to join up when the British arrive in 1776. But, his son enlists and is later captured by the enemy. So the former soldier must abandon his new-found pacifist lifestyle in order to rescue his oldest child. So he forms a regiment of Carolina patriots, whose guerrilla tactics prove pivotal to the US war effort.

While maybe this film is not so historically accurate. It is a very well written and produced film. It is what you would call a good popcorn movie. The film is rated R, though it is just for violence.

No matter what you watch on this Independence Day we wish you a Happy 4th of July and remember in America we are free because of the Brave!
