What the Night Can Do {DVD Review}

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

Real-life human dramas have become some of my favorite types of cinema. Real stories of people overcoming odds. Finding hope! And with the tagline, "It Doesn't Matter Where You're Going, But Who You Have Beside You." It sounds like the film 'What the night can do', is right up my alley!

Now the independent drama has found it's way to home video thanks to the fine folks at Mill Creek Entertainment. Let's give you our take on this DVD release.

The film follows 12-year-old Luana Cole. When a girl her age should be worrying about school, boys and social media. Her life is much more tragic. Her world is crumbling around her. her parents are separating and her Grandfather is seriously ill. Where can she find a safe place in the midst of all this turmoil? It come from one unlikely person.

The story is well crafted, although sometimes the dialog is a bit clunky. The
 direction of Christopher Martini is good for the most part.  As for the acting, the standouts in this production for me were Peyton Kennedy, JoBeth Williams and Stuart Margolin.

All in all, this film is a decent drama, but nothing overly amazing. Peyton Kennedy has a bright future ahead of her. It will be interesting to see the roles she plays in the years ahead.

Now for the DVD release. The film hs been transferred in widescreen format in 2.40:1 aspect ratio. The Audio is Dolby Digital 5.1. The picture quality is exceptional and the audio is crystal clear. As for bonus features, there is a trailer for the film.

If you are a fan of independent family dramas. Than What the Night can do, is probably going to be one you are going to want to check out. Just don't expect the Hollywood style production and acting quality and you should be ok!
