Glenn Ford was in a ton of iconic films over his career. The fastest gun alive, The courtship of Eddie's Father, Blackboard Jungle, Ransom and many more. One of the lesser-known films was Appointment in Honduras. Now the fine folks at VCI Entertainment has given this film a DVD release.
The film takes place in the first decade of the 1900s. There is a fictional revolution in Honduras. Jim Corbett (Glenn Ford) is hired to deliver a large sum of money to a deposed political leader.
Wealthy couple Harry & Sylvia (Ann Sheridan) Sheppard who are having internal problems in their marriage become unwilling hostages of Corbett and a murderous band of cutthroats as they trek through the jungles of Central America.
In about an hour and fifteen minutes, director Jacques Tourneur establishes an entertaining story that runs the full Gambit bringing the viewer emotions of passion, greed, violence, survival, and sprinkles in a little love. It is a very impressive mix. The film is engaging. While Appointment in Honduras is not Glenn Ford's greatest film it is definitely suggested viewing. Anytime you have Glenn Ford and Ann Sheridan on the screen you know that is a win-win situation.
As for the film is transferred in its original full-screen format. The film looks and sounds pretty good. The picture is not stellar, there are some specks and damage, but it is nothing that should take away from the viewing. There is also an option for English subtitles.
As for bonus features this one has a good bunch of bonuses. First off there is Chapter 1 of Jungle Queen the 1945 Universal serial. There is also a Popeye cartoon entitled, Spree Lunch from 1957, in which Popeye and Bluto restaurant owners fighting over customer Wimpy. And finally, Pathe Newsreels featuring The Academy Awards.
I have always loved seeing Glenn Ford on the big screen. And this time is no different. So if you're a fan of Glenn Ford this is an absolute must add to your Ford Collection.
