Films the feature animals have always been big business. Whether it was Disney pictures like The Shaggy Dog, Lassie, Rin Tin Tin or Benji. Even the classic TV show Lancelot Link! People love animal films and television. It's just a fact!
In 1997 Air Bud first, took to the big screen. Many Air Bud sequels would follow. In 2000 the producer of Air Bud decided to go for a different kind of animal entertainment, thus the MVP franchise was born featuring a sign language-speaking chimpanzee.
Now the good folks at Mill Creek Entertainment, who are always interested in bringing all movies something they will enjoy, now bring us the MVP double feature on DVD and Digital. Let's take a look at this double feature.
Our Rating System
**** = Don't Miss it!
***= Worth a look.
**= An OK way to spend an evening.
*=You haven't missed anything.
MVP: Most Valuable Primate (2000) Jack is an amazing sign language-speaking chimp. But when Jack is sold to a research lab, he breaks out and ends up northlands. Found by two teens, they soon release Jack has a unique talent for ice skating, and becomes the local hockey team’s secret weapon. With the playoffs going on and the lab officials are closing in will Jack be around long enough to help the team? ***
MVP 2: Most Vertical Primate (2001) In this sequel Jack finds himself wrongly accused and kicked off the hockey team. So Jack takes to the road. He soon makes friends with a skateboarder Ben and a skate shop owner Ollie. Who would of guessed the ice skating chimp could skateboard too! Jack and Ben are on a whole new adventureas they travel in a skateboarding competition! **
These two films have garnered the Dove seal of approval for family viewing and they are a good source of family entertainment. And in this day and age how often can you say that. The production quality is excellent. But you should realize these films are geared for a young audiences. But while the films stories are simplistic for the children, I think Mom and Dad will still find some fun in watching these as well!
Both films are on one disc they are presented in widescreen format and in 1.78:1 aspect ratio. The audio is in Dolby digital 5.1. There is also English subtitles for both films. This is great bonus feature for the deaf and hard of hearing.
Now with two films on one disc, you might think the films would suffer, but the film shows little to no signs of digital artifacts.
So if you're a fan of the Air Bud movie series, you'll love this MVP Double Feature. I highly suggest heading over to MillCreekEnt.com and pick up your copy today.
