The Man From Atlantis (TV Movie) {Warner Archive Blu-ray Review}

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

Warner Archive Collection is a Made on Demand service. Where TV and Movie fans can purchase hard to find films and TV shows. That will probably never see a wide in store release. One of those Warner Archive releases was The Man from Atlantis, a TV movie that spawned three movie sequels and a short lived TV series. The first film is now on Blu-ray.

The Man from Atlantis starts off with a father and his young son finding an unconscious man washes up on the beach covered in seaweed. They get him to the man to the hospital, when the doctors find there is something very strange about this man. His eyes are unique and his hand is discolored. The amnesiac patient seems to have forgotten how to breathe. So they call in a specialist Dr. Merrill. Upon investigation of his lungs she takes the man to the ocean. When she puts him into the water he is able to breathe again and his hands return to a normal color.

After a battery of tests come back it seems that the man might just be the last man from Atlantis. Funding is given to research his abilities. The research shows that he can swim faster, jump higher and go down at least 30,000 ft underwater with no effect. Mark Harris as they named him is the perfect candidate to help the government help find a missing submarine, but what is found out is their is an evil villainous man Mr. Schubert with a plan for world domination that must be
thwarted.

I have to say I really enjoyed this 70's TV Movie! I think Patrick Duffy did a remarkable job as Mark Harris The Man from Atlantis.This was just a year before his life would change and he would be on the TV show Dallas. And Victor Buono is delightful as the evil Schubert. He is so fun to watch! This role was years after he played another iconic role in a "superhero" series! He played King Tut in The Adam West Batman series!

The Man from Atlantis story is nothing out of this world! It is a typical 70's TV movie action adventure. The underwater scenes were masterfully shot and look stunning. Of course this is a 70's made for TV movies so it is not going to hold up against the big blockbuster releases of this day and age. But if your reading this article, your not expecting that.

The TV movie has been transferred presented in 1080p in the original aspect ratio of 1.33:1. As for the sound is has a DTS-HD MA 2.0 track. The film looks and sounds really good in my opinion. I doubt it ever looked as good as it does now on this Blu-ray release!

The blu-ray holds the film and English subtitles for the hearing impaired! There are no bonus features. That is a but of a downer, but for me a great looking copy of a film is more than enough to satisfy me.

I really hope this release leads to the rest of the TV Movies being released on Blu-ray. I would love to get to see those as well! As I wasn't even born yet when these first aired. Here's to hoping!

So if you're a fan of Patrick Duffy, Scifi movies, action/ adventure films or 70s TV. The Man from Atlantis TV Movie is defiantly one for you to check out! Head over to Amazon and pick up a copy today you won't be disappointed.
