At the beginning of this year 2019 MVD Visual from the MVD Rewind Collection gave the live action film a absolutely amazing retro Blu-ray / DVD release! You can read our review of that release here! But what about the Animated series? Well, the series time has come for a DVD release thanks to Invincible Pictures and MVD Visual.
The Series follows Billy and Jimmy Lee are twins separated at birth and raised by opposing factions. Following the Code of the Dragon, Billy trains to become the Dragon Master. Along with policewoman Marian Martin, Billy protects The City from the Shadow Warriors, a criminal organization led by the mysterious Shadow Master, secretly instructing Jimmy Lee in the ways of the Black Flame.
Double Dragon lasted 2 seasons and 26 half hour episodes. That is 13 episodes per season! Now for this DVD release those 26 episodes are spread out over 3 DVDs. Let's talk a look at the episode listings.

The stories in this series was simple. But this series was for kids. So you could expect real complex issues. Yet it still had a lot of action and good human drama as well. The animation in this series is amazing.
The DVD transfer of these episodes look very good! Of course they are not going to look HD. This series was made by DIC Entertainment on the cheap in hopes to make a profit. These episode are presented in their original full screen format and in Stereo 2.0 audio. There is also English subtitles included, a very cool feature for the deaf and hard of hearing.
This release makes a great companion to MVD Rewind's Double Dragon movie release! Right there on the shelf the complete Double Dragon collection, very cool!
