Memorial Day and The Movies

Today is Memorial Day! The day we celebrate some of the brave solders who fought and died for our freedom! While I have never fought in a war. I was never in any branch of the service. I have a huge amount of respect for those brave men and women who do serve!

So today I want to give you a few suggestions for some great films to watch this memorial day! Some light-heared, some really action packed and some very dramatic, but all Classic Cinema approved.

Sergeant York (1941) A recent convert (Gary Cooper) to Christianity, finds himself torn between his non-violent beliefs and his desire to serve his country when recruited to fight in World War I.

Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942)
The life of the renowned musical composer, playwright, actor, dancer, and singer George M. Cohan (James Cagney).

They Were Expendable (1945) The PT boat unit Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron Three defends the Philippines from Japanese invasion during World War II.Stars John Wayne and Robert Montgomery.

The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) Three World War II veterans return home to small-town America to discover that they and their families have been irreparably changed.

The Longest Day (1962) The events of D-Day, told on a grand scale from both the Allied and German points of view.This has an amazing all star cast of John Wayne, Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum, Sean Connery, Richard Burton and many more.

The Great Escape (1963) Allied prisoners of war plan for several hundred of their number to escape from a German camp during World War II. This is defiantly one of Steve McQueen's most iconic roles.
