Hornet (2018)

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

The Asylum is known for their "mockbusters". These are films
created with the intention of exploiting the publicity of another major motion picture with a similar title or subject.

In December they released the film Hornet to cash in on the buzz of Transformer's Bumblebee. Well, now Hornet is getting it's chance at a DVD release thanks to MVD Visual. Let's take a look at this DVD release.

Top secret Government agency obtained footage, that show an alien invasion. Aliens have invaded and brainwashed humans all for one purpose to carry out acts of destruction.

Three college students are in the desert testing an advanced mech-bot named 'Hornet' when the attack happens. Hornet may be mankind's only chance for survival.

Anyone who has watched an Asylum mockbuster film knows what your in for. These are not the big blockbuster films. They are cheesy films to just have fun with. You laugh at the goofiness.

Now for this film surprisingly the CGI is better than normal. Hornet the robot looks pretty good throughout the film. The actors do a decent job, nothing outstanding. And the direction is solid.

It is good to note there is some profanity in this film, but not as bad as some Asylum films I've seen. And there is some violence but nothing to extreme.

Now for the DVD release. The film is transferred in widescreen format and looks and sounds good. As for bonus features there is just trailers for films. I wished there was more features, it would have made this release a lot cooler.

This release is not going to be for everyone. This is only for people who are fans of Asylum's mockbusters releases.

So if you are a fan of mockbusters,  you are going to want to add Hornet to your collection. It can be purchased on DVD from MVDshop.com be sure to head over there and pick up your copy today!
