To Be A Soldier

Reviewed by Jason Lockard

Many believe General Sherman was the one who first uttered the phrase, "War is Hell!" Conflicts not only effect lives of soldiers fighting , but innocent lives caught in the line of fire. One film that showed an unflinching look at the horror of war was a film entitled Sinjar: Valley of the Shadow. During the film's festival run, its name was changed to "To Be a Soldier".

Now the good folks at Mill Creek Entertainment is giving this Independent Dove approved film,
based on a true story, a DVD release all it's own. Let's take a look at this release.

The film follows a British  salesman named Gregory Kirk (Jacob Dufour) When he finds out his sister
Sophie has goes missing in the Middle-East and fears she may be a hostage of Isis. He makes the tough decision to risk loosing his job and his life to find his sister.

Arriving in the Middle East, he recruits a troubled ex-Army ranger Bryce Daniels (T. L.  Bridger) to help him rescue her. As they travel through the hot scorching desert, they must battle terrorists, the elements, and their own demons.

The story explores what it takes 'to be a soldier' in an honest, gripping and heart wrenching tale. Jacob Dufour and T. L.  Bridger play well off each other.
You can see director Adam Dufour had vision not to be overtly preachy with this faith based feature film.

The soundtrack is a masterful piece, complimenting this dramatic presentation. Which was produced by lead actor Jacob Dufour. This is a low budget film so the special effects are not what we see in the big blockbuster releases, but it's not all that bad.

As for the film transfer to DVD. The film is presented in widescreen format and has two versions of audio the 2.0 Stereo or the 5.1 Surround. The film is crystal clear. No signs of damage to the picture. And the audio takes you right into the front lines with Gregory and Bryce. With every gun shot you can feel the impact.

I do recommend this film for faith film fans and war movie fans. Head over to MillCreekEnt.com and pick up your copy today.
