Reviewed by Jason LockardMany years ago the movie "Saw" took the horror genre by storm. This film inspired many filmmakers that followed. There have been films that tried to capture the magic of that film. One such film is Wild Film Releasing's [Cargo].
The film follows a man named Anthony Peterson a cunning and ruthless businessman. After being drugged he wakes up trapped inside a cargo container. Inside there is only a cell phone. There is only 24 hours of air and his kidnapper informs him that unless he raises ten million dollars in ransom he and his wife will be killed.
Cargo is a suspenseful thriller. The film has a very claustrophobic feel. The whole film takes place in the Cargo container. Anthony played by Ron Thompson is on the phone. You hear the people he is talking to, you hear the events taking place, but never see another person. All told Ron Thompson does a decent job. I think it hard for one actor to carry an entire film by themselves. The film does suffer a little from that.
The film was written and directed by James Dylan. This is much more than a horror or thriller film. This is a character study. A study about the human spirit how far a person will go to make money and keep it. Including alienating family and friends.
It is good to note this is an adult film. There is a lot of adult language and very violent conversations going on. This film in my opinion is not for kids and teens.
The DVD presents the film is presented in widescreen format 2.0 audio. The bonus features include the commentary featuring the cast and trailers from other Wild Eye Releasing films.
