Reviewed By Jason LockardIn the early days of television there were many amazing TV anthology drama series. One such was Family Theater hosted by Father Patrick Peyton. During it's time on the air many Hollywood heavyweights would grace that stage.
Alpha Video is releasing one of these amazing biblical dramas on DVD. This one is an Easter Special entitled, The Triumphant Hour, starring the great Raymond Burr. Let's take a look at the story.
The story starts after Jesus' death on the cross. When he was buried his followers are distraught. They begin to question amongst themselves, Was his words true? Was he really the Messiah as He claimed to be?" In the midst of all this doubt and discouragement. Peter is unshaken in his faith as to who Jesus really was. He decides to make he way to the tomb to see if Jesus' word He proclaimed that he would live again are true.
Raymond Burr unsurprisingly is tremendous as Peter. The direction of Frank MacDonald, known for directing Gene Autry and Roy Rogers, is stellar in this production. All in all this is a beautifully preformed Easter story!
There is a special bonus here in that broadcast cuts to Easter Mass service at the Hollywood Church where Don Ameche is leading and many hollywood heavyweights are in attendance including, Roddy MacDowell, James Gleason, Ann Blyth, Jerry Colonna and Jane Wyatt.
The DVD includes this TV episode and it looks and sounds good. There is some minor imperfections as with all TV from the early days, but there is nothing in my opinion that should take away from the enjoyment of this episode.
