Reviewed by Jason LockardAlbert and Charles Band were known for the violent horror films like Puppet Master in the 80s and 90s that home video fans ran to the local video store to rent. The younger film fans however were missing out on the Band film goodies. So the Father and Son team decided to bring some family friendly films with a new brand Moonbeam Entertainment the first film was Prehysteria! Now it is on Blu-ray / DVD combo pack.
The film follows the Taylor family. After a mix-up while trying to sell fossils to Museum curator Rico Sarno, Frank Taylor and his two kids daughter Monica and son Jerry get Sarno's cooler full of dinosaur eggs. Back at their farm the eggs hatch and little dinosaurs are running through the house. The lecherous Rico wants the dinosaurs back to our them on display, but his up to the Taylor family to protect the little dinos.
The story idea was originated by Peter Von Sholly and written into a screenplay by Greg Suddeth and Mark Goldstein. The story is pretty basic 90s family entertainment, but fun. The acting is very good! The cast put their heart and soul into this production! We have many great actors in this adventure including; Brett Cullen, Austin O'Brien (Last Action Hero), Colleen Morris, Tony Longo, Stephen Lee (Robocop 2)
The special effect are stunning! I am a sucker for stop motion animation! I always have been and Chris Endicott did an absolutely amazing job on these little dinosaurs. He showed he has the ability to do great things. No wonder he would go on to work on some of the best superhero films like, Deadpool, Spider-man Homecoming and Avengers Infinity Wars.
Albert and Charles Band are masters of low budget film making! They can make any film look like a big budget release. This is one awesome little adventure that the whole family can sit down and enjoy together and not be afraid of being offended. In this day and age that is hard to find!
This Blu-ray DVD combo includes the film in 1080p High Definition and has the audio option 5.1 surround sound and 2.0 Stereo. It looks and sounds stunning. The bonus features include; an audio commentary by Austin O'Brein and Charles Band, The Moonbeam Videozone, a behind the scenes featurette and Full Moon Trailers.
