My Pet Dinosaur (2017) {DVD Review}

Reviewed by Jason Lockard

I recently picked up the blu-ray of E.T. The Extra Terrestrial and re-watched the film for the first time in over a decade. The film is timeless. The reason for that is it deals will people and emotions.

The new DVD release My pet dinosaur claims to be E.T. meets Jurassic Park. That is a mighty bold statement. But does this film on DVD from Uncorked Entertainment hold up? Lets find out!

The film follows a young boy named Jake Emory who is struggling to adjust to life after his father died. But things become even more of a struggle when he in an experiment creates a dinosaur. Trying to keep this huge secret and protect the ever growing dinosaur that he named Magnus, along with his brother, Mike and friend Abbey. Soon the military get involved and capture the huge Magnus to experiment on the frightened dinosaur. Now it is up to Jake and his friends to rescue Magnus before its too late.

The story feels very much like E.T. I think when watching it you can see many parallels with the Spielberg classic. The film is full of heart and emotion. The CGI is good, but instead of being the focal point like most films today, it is just used to enhance the acting and story. The story is the star. I love that. The musical score is a perfect addition to the story.

The film is a family friendly release. There is no sex or nudity. Very mild cursing. And mild violence. This film has the Dove approved seal for ages 12+.

The acting is good, but this in an Australian production. The actors try to do their best to make this look and sound like an American production. It sounds a little off at times to me. But that is the only real complaint I had in watching this film. I found it an enjoyable experience.

The film has been transferred to DVD and is presented in widescreen format and in 2.0 and 5.1 audio in English there is also a French audio track as well. The film looks and sounds outstanding on the DVD. As for the bonus features there is a behind-the-scenes featurettes and storyboard comparisons.

The film will be released on DVD on November 6th.

So if you love good clean family sci-fi films as much as I do. By all means check out My Pet Dinosaur at Uncorked-ent.com or buy a copy on Amazon.com
