Helen Mirren and Goldie Hawn took different paths to becoming Silver screen legends. But needless to say they are both icons of cinema. Before they were legends they were struggling to become known. And one role for each of them gained them the attention of Hollywood producers.
Mill Creek Entertainment have released the two actresses breakout debut roles, which by sheer coincidence happened to take place in 1969. Both of these films make their way to High Definition Blu-ray for the first time ever. Let's take a look at the films on this blu-ray.
Our Rating System:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend an evening.
*=You haven’t missed anything.
Age of Consent (1969) Bradley Morahan is an aging artist is suffering from burnout, so he decides to move to a remote Australian Island. There he hope to be refreshed and find inspiration. He instead finds young lady who agrees to pose for him. This would begin their most unusual relationship. ***
Cactus Flower (1969)
Dr. Julian Winston is a bachelor dentist who pretends to be married to avoid commitment. But when his girlfriend insists on meeting his fictitious
wife and kids, the dentist asks his lovelorn nurse to pose as the wife. ***
While these film are charming in their own way, the stories can bit a bit slow in spots. Plus it is good to note that these films are for mature audiences. While these are the big screen debuts of these amazing ladies, they are joined by great leading men James Mason joins Helen Mirren and Walter Matthau joins Goldie Hawn.
Both of these films are presented in widescreen format. Age of consent is in 1080p High Definition 1.78:1 and Cactus Flower in 1080p High Definition 1.85:1. Both boast of uncompressed LPCM 2.0 Stereo audio.
These two films look and sound stunning on Blu-ray. The colors are vibrant, the picture is clear and the sound is crisp. There is no bonus features, but your getting two classic films on Blu-ray what more could you ask for?
So if you a fan of Helen Mirren, Goldie Hawn or both. Or if your just a fan of classic 60s cinema. This blu-ray is a must add to your collection. Head over to MillCreekent.com or your local Blu-ray provider and pick up your copy today.
