Patterns (1956) {Blu-ray Review}

Reviewed by: Jason S. Lockard

When you say Rod Serling most people think of the host of The Twilight Zone and The Night Gallery. But Rod Serling was an amazing screenwriter, penning many of the classic zone and gallery episodes as well as writing the screenplay for two of my favorite films, Planet of the Apes and Requiem for a Heavyweight.

The Film Detective has been taking original prints of classic movie and cleaning them up and releasing them on high definition blu-rays. Now the latest to get this treatment is Rod Serling's Patterns.

Patterns first aired on Kraft Television Theater. It told of the pressures within the executive branch of a major New York industrial company. The film follows the men and women of the company that were willing to do anything to get to the top. Starring such actors as Van Helfin, Everett Sloane and Ed Begley. It was directed by Fielder Cook, an amazing TV movie director, but also directed but also directed 1966's A big hand for the little lady and Dean Martin's 1968 film, How to save a marriage and ruin your life.

This brilliant and poignant drama has real tension and the acting is spot on! Patterns was such a success with viewers that it launched Rod Serling into stardom and earned him his first of six well deserved Emmy awards.

The movie on this blu-ray has been cleaned up and it looks and sounds better than any of the copies I have seen. I was very impressed with this release. The only downfall I can say about this Blu-Ray is there are no bonus features, but the film is enough for any Rod Serling fan.

So if you love Rod Serling's writing or if you love a good drama Patterns is the perfect film for you. Head over to Amazon.com and pick this one up today!
