Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959) {Blu-ray Review}

Reviewed By Jason S. Lockard

Plan 9 from Outer Space is Ed Wood’s fourth debacle as a director. It is widely considered the worst movie ever made, but some consider it so bad that it’s good. Now Legend Films has restored this film and colorized it and for the first time ever is available on Blu-ray.

While planning to produce another film using the great Bela Lugosi; Ed Wood shot footage of Bela, tragically Bela died and Ed was left with the footage and a question, what to do with this footage? Thus came Plan 9 from outer space.

Originally titled Grave Robbers from Outer Space the movie follows aliens who want to stop humans from creating a doomsday weapon thus they unleash Plan 9 to resurrect dead humans as zombies and vampires to stop human kind from destroying themselves and all of the universe.

Plan 9 is not a great film it’s not even a good film, but it’s a good spoof of 50s sci-fi. The only problem; this was 50s sci-fi and it wasn’t trying to spoof anything. This Blu-ray includes both the restored black and white and the new beautifully colorized version. Film purests have a very big problem with colorizing black and white films! I say that if it takes that to get people to check out older films do it! Than there is the  Blu-ray bonus features which include Ed Wood home movies and commercials, audio commentary from Mike Nelson and trivia.

So if you love Ed Wood or your a fan of B movies this is one of those must have Blu-rays. So head over to www.LegendFilms.com or your local Blu-ray provider and pick up your copy today.
