No Escape (1994) {Unearthed Classics Blu-ray Review}

Earlier this year the world suffered the loss of Ray Liotta. Known for his roles in  such movies like Goodfellas. Black Bird, Field of Dreams, John Q and Corinna, Corina. In 1994 he starred in the sci-fi, action film No Escape (released internationally as Escape from Absolom).

Now in a special tribute to Ray Liotta and as the film is set in the future of 2022, Unearthed Classics is releasing No Escape on Blu-ray so that film fans can relive this Liotta film for years to come.

In the year 2022 a 21st century Marine convict John Robbins (Liotta) is sent to a remote prison called Absolom. Corporations are controlling the prison, and with rival inmate faction wading war, the ruthless warden (Michael Lerner) has devised a plan to squash these tensions.

Gale Anne Hurd (Aliens, The Terminator, The Walking Dead) produced No Escape is an entertaining mash-up of Mad Max and Escape from New York. The action is good and the story is put together nicely. Martin Campbell (Goldeneye, Casino Royale, The Mask of Zorro) did a great job of direction. Music by Graeme Revell brought the music of the epic The Crow to life and brings the music to this film.

Ray Liotta is a brilliant actor as we all know. But here is seems he is a little bit out of his element, at least in my opinion. He seems a bit out of place as an action star. He is not Sylvester Stallone, Kirk Russel or Mel Gibson. But it is still a fun little film to watch. In addition to Ray Liotta (Goodfellas) and
Michael Lerner (Blank Check), the cast includes is Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), Lance Henriksen (Pumpkinhead), Stuart Wilson (The Mask of Zorro), Kevin Dillion (The Blob).

Now for the objectionable content. There is no sexual content whatsoever. The profanity is there but it is a bit tame in comparison to most R rated films. The major thing is the strong violence. Of course it's a prison film and prisons are not picnics. So if violent movies bother you, you may want to stay away from this one.

The film has been transferred in 1080p HD in 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The soundtrack options are English DTS-HD 5.1 and PCM 2.0, French PCM 2.0. Finally there is English and French subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

As for Bonus Feature Unearthed Classics have added a good chuck of bonus feature to this Blu-ray set to keep movie fans entertained after the final credits role. Take a look at what is included on this Blu-ray disc.
