Bud Yorkin and Norman Lear are mostly known for the television shows they created together. They made such classics as All in the Family, Maude, Sanford and Son, Good Times and Diff'rent Strokes as well as others.
But they also did films together as well. In 1970, the duo got the opportunity to work with a comedy genius, the great Gene Wilder in the comedy Start the Revolution Without Me. This film has celebrated its 56th birthday, so the good folks at Warner Archive Collection have restored and released this comedy classic on Blu-ray for the first time ever.
Synopsis: Two sets of twins are mismatched at birth so that years later, each set will have one Gene Wilder and one Donald Sutherland. One set grows up to be aristocratic swashbucklers; the other set are peasants. In a hilarious fluke of fate, they crisscross across classes and laughter ensues.
This film is a spoof period piece, and while it has funny times, it suffers from pacing issues. Gene Wilder is hilarious, and the supporting cast is great as well. It's just not the strongest of screenplays. Plus, it was ahead of its time. It would be half a decade before the world would truly understand spoof comedies with Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein.
Start The Revolution Without Me has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
Now, as always, this is not just a film thrown on a Blu-ray as a cash grab. Warner Archive puts the work into making the transfers the best possible. And this film is no different. The film looks and sounds stellar on Blu-ray. Plus Warner Archive added some cool bonus features. Take a look at what is included.
* A 2003 Audio commentary featuring Gene Wilder, Donald Sutherland, and Bud Yorkin
* Napoleon Bunny-Part (1956) – Classic Bugs Bunny cartoon in HD
* The Scarlet Pumpernickel (1950) – Classic Daffy Duck cartoon in HD

The archived audio commentary with Yorkin, Wilder and Sutherland is a fun time together. Truly a must listen. Then the addition of two classic cartoons and the trailer. This makes this Blu-ray a great addition to anyone's home video library.
