On December 27th, 2023, the next Agatha Christie adaption debuted on premiered on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Now, over 2 years after this mini-series aired, this mini-series has come to physical media on DVD.
Synopsis: Newly arrived in England, Luke Fitzwilliam unexpectedly finds himself investigating a series of suspicious deaths, determined to prove that they are not accidents, but murders.
David Jonsson's performance as Luke Obiako Fitzwilliam is so strong. He really anchors this cast of this mini-series and makes this a tremendous adaptation of the 1939 Agatha Christie novel. The mini-series is a wonderful mystery that keeps you guessing to the very end.
This mini-series has been transferred to DVD and is presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio tracks are English 5.1 or 2.0 and French 5.1 and 2.0. There are subtitles in English and French.
Now, the DVD quality of this mini-series is okay. The picture is a bit soft at times and murky. And the dark lighting at times in the production does not help the transfer to DVD. While not spectacular, most audiences won't even notice the imperfections and will find the transfer perfectly acceptable. As for bonus features. Don't look for them, because you won't find any.
I love the way Agatha Christie's novel was brought into a modern age with a cool twist. But the DVD release fails to impress here. But if you love Agatha Christie film adaptations, this new mini-series DVD would make a nice addition to your home video library. Just don't expect too much.
