Spencer Tracy gave some of the greatest performances in cinema history. Whether it was drama, comedy, adventure, or even horror, Tracy proved he could do it all. Even late in his career was nominated for the best actor Oscar for the film "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?" and even won a BAFTA award for that performance.
Warner Archive Collection has been celebrating his career by restoring some of his best and most loved films on Blu-ray. Now the latest one to receive a restored Blu-ray release is 1932's 20,000 Years in Sing Sing.
Synopsis: Hardened criminal Tommy Connors (Spencer Tracy) enters Sing Sing prison convinced that his reputation and some bribery through his lawyer, Joe Finn (Louis Calhern), will control warden Paul Long (Arthur Byron). But Long rejects the bribe and insists that Connors accept his role as just another convict. After initial hostility, Connors knuckles under, and over time wins Long's trust. However, when his girlfriend, Fay (Bette Davis), is gravely injured by Finn, his reformation is put to the test.
Before they would become Hollywood icons Sprenser Tracy and Bette Davis lit up the screen in 20,00 Years in Sing Sing. Yet in this genration aside from classic film fans this film is almost forgotten. Yet this is an important film as it was one of the first prison dramas and directed by the great Micheal Curtis. The story is great and the acting is inspired. It truly is a great pre-code drama.
20,000 Years in Sing Sing has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.37:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
Warner Archive has performed a new 4K scan from the original camera negative of this film. What results is a pristine looking copy of this film. The picture is sharp, with the black and white picture looking better than ever. The audio is clean. There are no issues with hiss or pops. In watching this film on Blu-ray, you would not believe this film is over 90 years old.
In addition to an amazing-looking restoration of this film. Warner Archive Collection added some very cool bonus features to this Blu-ray disc. Let's take a look at what is included.
