SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants Blu-ray review

Who lives in a Pineapple under the sea? Absorbent and yellow and porous is he! If nautical nonsense is something you wish. Then drop on the deck and flop like a fish. These are the lyrics of the theme of SpongeBob SquarePants of course.

With the success of the TV series, producers saw the opportunity for big-screen features of SpongeBob and his friends. So starting in 2004 there was The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, followed by The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water (2015), The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run (2020). And now the most recent film The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants. 

Paramount Home Entertainment has now released The SpongeBob Movies: Search for SquarePants on Blu-ray and DVD.

Synopsis: Desperate to prove themselves, SpongeBob and Patrick sign on to the ghost ship of the fearsome Flying Dutchman, who's seeking a pure soul to sacrifice and end his eternal cursed voyage. Thing is, the ancient mariner didn't tell our absorbent adventurer that he filled the sacrificial bill-so Mr. Krabbs, Squidward, and Gary have to mount a rescue! 

SpongeBob the series is still going strong all these years later. Many of the kids who loved that show are now parents themselves and probably enjoy the series and movies with their kids. 

SpongeBob is an acquired taste. Some will find the idea and jokes to be too childish, while others will find this to be so much fun. It is totally up to the individual viewer. But there is no denying the star power of the voice actors in this film. 

The voices included Tom Kenny (The Power Puff Girls), Mark Hamill (Star Wars), George Lopez (The George Lopez Show), Bill Fagerbakke (Coach), Tom Wilson (Back to the Future) and Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption).

The SpongeBob Movie has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. There are several options for audio. There is an English Dolby Atmos, a French Dolby Digital 5.1, a Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 and an Audio descriptive track. There are also the options for subtitles in English, English SDH, French and Spanish.

This Blu-ray transfer looks and sound good. There are no signs of digital artifacts or audio anomalies. This release features more than just an entertaining animated film. Paramount added some nice bonus features to this release. Take a look at what is included.
