The Asylum movie studio is best known for b horror movies. One of their most successful movie series would have to be The Sharknado franchise. Who among us has not watched one of these campy horror films? But The Asylum isn't all campy horror. They have made some pretty decent little films like Christmas Belles (2019), Vinyl (2000) and The Twisted Nanny (2019).
In 2025 The Asylum brought their next supernatural horror film to movie fans. The film was directed by Jose Prendes and is entitled Evil Nun. For fans of The Asylum movies and physical media collectors, can get their hands on this film as it has been released on DVD.
Synopsis: When a Catholic youth ministry is invited to spend the night in a vacant Mexican church, they’re trapped by the ghostly apparition of a vengeful nun. Now their only hope is to break the curse before she claims them all, one deadly sin at a time.
Evil Nun has some interesting twists and turns. And as with most Asylum films, the film mixes horror with comedy. Watching this film, there is no denying that it follows familiar horror tropes. Now, some may find this great as the tropes will make the film feel familiar, while other film fans will find this to be to cliché.
The acting is a bit plastic. The direction is okay. The special effects are passable. But to call this film enjoyable for this reviewer? No! Not by a long shot.
Evil Nun has been transferred to DVD in widescreen format. The audio track is an English Dolby Digital 2.1 Surround Sound. There are English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. The picture quality of this transfer is nice. There are no digital artifacts or audio anomalies. As for bonus features. There is just Asylum trailers. Disappointing.
Now, some people may really enjoy the campiness of the Evil Nun film. And if you love The Asylum films, well, by all means, pick up this DVD of Evil Nun.
