During their illustrious careers The Shaw Brothers brought so much entertainment to the world. And they were not afraid to think outside the box and have a female character be the lead. This happened many times in their films. Films like Lady with a Sword and Lady Assassin.
88 Films have been releasing a lot of The Shaw Brothers films on Blu-ray for a while now and it is time for, yet another strong female led movie to get a deluxe Blu-ray release and that film is 1975's Lady of the law.
Synopsis: A dangerous criminal escapes captivity - but luckily crime-busting super swords-woman Leng Rushuang (Shih Szu, Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires) is on his trail. However, she has doubts about his guilt, and she's not going to stop fighting until she's sure the right man is being punished.
Lady of the Law is a very complex story, yet without becoming confusing! That is a hard task to accomplish, yet here it is! Along with a wonderful performance by Shih Szu, there is great performances by Lo Lieh (Dragons Forever) and Dean Shek (Drunken Master). There is also top notch Hong Kong swordplay.
88 Films has transferred Lady of the Law in High Definition (1080p) and is presented in 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is a Mandarin DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 with newly translated English Subtitles.
Now this transfer isn't just any transfer it is an HD transfer from the original negative. What results is a crisp and clean. The colors are eye catching and there are no signs of damage to this print I could see anywhere. But that is not all that is included on this Blu-ray. 88 Films added some cool bonus features. Take a look at what is included.
* Audio Commentary by David West
* Stills Gallery
* Limited Edition O-ring
* Reversible Blu-ray insert
* Trailer
* Double sided Fold-out Poster
The only real on disc bonus is the really nice audio commentary by David West. But where this Blu-ray rally thrives is in the physical bonus features. The poster is simply spectacular, and I love the different artwork with the slipcover and Blu-ray insert.
