Inglorious Bastards (2009) Arrow Video 4k and Blu-ray review

In cinema history there have been many films produced about World War II and the fight against the Nazi regime. But in 2009 filmmaker Quentin Tarantino known for his ultra-violent films like Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Death Proof and the remake of Django Unchained decided to make his take on the war against the Nazis with Inglorious Bastards.

Now as we are coming upon this films 16th anniversary the good folks at Arrow Video have decided to release this film on deluxe edition Blu-ray and 4K UltraHD. This is a great time to upgrade your World War II collection with an all-new edition of Inglorious Bastards.

Synopsis: Narrowly escaping the massacre of her entire family by the SS, Shosanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent) flees to Paris and forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema. Meanwhile, a guerilla band of Jewish-American soldiers known as 'The Basterds' led by Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt), are waging a bloody war of attrition behind enemy lines but Europe remains beneath Nazi bootheels. Believing themselves unstoppable, the leaders of the Third Reich assemble in Paris for the premiere of propaganda epic Nation's Pride. The location? Shosanna's cinema. With all the rotten eggs in one basket, 'The Basterds' join forces with British Commando Lt. Archie Hicox (Michael Fassbender) and German film star/undercover allied agent Bridget Von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) to infiltrate the premiere. Their plan? Blow up the basket...

What makes Quentin Tarantino such a great filmmaker, is the fact that he loves films. In Inglorious Bastards you can see homages to many great films in cinema history most notably John Ford's The Searchers. Tarantino put together an amazing cast lead by Brad Pitt and includes Mike Myers, Eli Roth, Bo Svenson, Harvey Keitel and the legendary Rod Taylor.

As with all Tarantino films Inglorious Bastards is based on real soldiers, but this story takes place in an alternate universe where what takes place is not historic but wished it would have. But really to be totally honest this film is not about the solders it is really about the revenge of Shosanna. Inglorious Bastards is without a doubt my favorite Tarantino film.

Arrow Video has transferred Inglorious Bastards to 4k in 2160p and Blu-ray in 1080p. The audio track is a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

So, this transfer is the same as the previous Universal 4K release. The film looks crisp and clean and there is no digital anomalies. But what makes this deluxe release one you must see is because of the massive amount of bonus features. Take a look at what is included.
