Star Trek Prodigy Season 2 (DVD Review)

There are few ideas that have spawned more TV series and movies than that of Star Trek. Whether it is the original series, Next Generation, Voyager, Enterprise, the many feature films or animated series, Trekkers cannot get enough of the Star Trek Universe.

Paramount+ is creating a new generation of Trekkers with the animated series Star Trek Prodigy. But this series is not just for kids, it is good for the whole family. Now Paramount Pictures Home Entertainment have released season 2 of this animated series on DVD.

Synopsis: In this season, the Prodigy crew are assigned a new mission aboard the USS Voyager-A to rescue Captain Chakotay and bring peace to Gwyn's home world. But when their plan goes astray, it creates a time paradox that jeopardizes both their future and past.

Many Trekkers love Kathrine Janeway, many even consider her the best. Well, it is so cool to see Admiral Janeway in a new adventure, even if it is an animated one. And to make this even better Kate Mulgrew supplies the voice for the Admiral... Awesome!

The animation is so good in this series. Some of the computer animation that I have seen in this generation is so bad, I would deem it unwatchable. I am glad to say that is not the case here.

This season feature one of my favorite elements in the Star Trek Universe, time travel. Ever since I marveled at the amazing episode 'The city on the edge of forever', I have always loved when the crew of the enterprise and other ships would travel through time. Itis cool to see that on full display here.

This season just like season 1 consists of 20 episodes, including several 2-part episodes. These 20 episodes are spread across 3 DVD discs.

Disc 1: Into the Breach 1&2 / Who Saves the Saviors / Temporal Mechanics 101 / Observer's Paradox / Imposter Syndrome / The Fast and the Curious

Disc 2: Is There in Beauty No Truth? / The Devourer of All Things 1&2 / Last Flight of the Protostar 1&2 / A Tribble Called Quest / Cracked Mirror

Disc 3: Ascension 1&2 / Brink / Touch of Grey / Ouroboros 1&2

These episodes have been transferred to DVD in widescreen format. The audio is a Dolby Digital 5.1. There are also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. These episodes are sharp and crisp with no digital artifacts. The audio is clear with no anomalies.

Now in addition to 20 action-packed episodes, this DVD features a couple cool bonus features that take this DVD release from cool to ultra cool. Take a look at what is included.

* Producing Prodigy: The Legacy:
A 6-minute featurette that explores the connections that Prodigy shares with Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

* The Odyssey of Prodigy:
An almost 19-minute featurette explores this season's story arc. As one of the producers put it, “Season 1 is about a bunch of kids who steal a starship. Season 2 is about a bunch of kids who earn a starship.”

Many who watched season one of this show and quit because of the underwhelming season, really missed out. Season 2 was an amazing upgrade. But sadly, probably because so many quit watching Star Trek Prodigy was cancelled after Season 2. So, we won't get to see any more adventures from this crew.

So if you are a fan of the Star Trek Universe as much as I am, you need Star Trek Prodigy Season 2 in your collection. Head over to Amazon and order your copy today. This is a truly fun little season of the expanded Star trek Universe.
