Abruptio (2023) Blu-ray Review

There are some films that when you watch them, they just stick with you. Whether it's because they are really good, really bad or really weird. The new Anchor Bay Entertainment release of Abruptio, falls somewhere in these categories.

I remember being a small child and seeing part of the show Sid and Marty Krofft's D.C. Follies. Of course, I didn't understand who these characters were on the screen at the time, but I was enthralled with the puppetry! Well, this new film Abruptio uses full size puppetry to bring a horror film to life.

Synopsis: Les Hackel hates his life. He works a dead-end job, was just dumped by his high-maintenance girlfriend, and still lives with his nagging mom. One night, he discovers a fresh incision behind his neck. His friend Danny tells him it's a bomb, that someone has implanted one in his neck, too. And then the messages start coming in, forcing Les to carry out missions with deadly results. Les is partnered up with a series of oddball characters to commit heinous tasks. The violence escalating around him, Les pieces together the clues that reveal the horrific plans to breed a monstrous race of beings.

The story is nothing groundbreaking, but the puppetry is! The eyes of these puppets are so eerie and creepy that you will never ever forget their stare. Evan Marlowe wrote and directed a film that is something out of a creepy nightmare.

The voice actors are where this film really shine There is the great Robert Englund, Jordan Peele, James Marsters, Hana Mae Lee, Christopher McDonald, and even Sid Haig. This is an extremely well-produced horror film, that you will not soon forget after the credits roll.

Abruptio has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in widescreen format. The audio track is a Dolby Digital 5.1. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

* A New Kind of horror, Interviews with the performers and filmmakers
* Audio Commentary track with Writer/Director Evan Marlowe and Producer Kerry Marlowe
* Audio Commentary track with puppeteer Danny Montooth

The audio commentaries and the interviews are nice. But to be honest I would have really loved to delve into the making of the puppetry, behind the scenes of making this film. That would have made this release even better.

If you want to experience a different kind of horror film, I suggest Abruptio. It is a nightmare world come to life on your TV screen. head over to MVD Shop or Amazon and order your copy of the Blu-ray today!
